Swallow Cape - "Abduction of Europa"
Swallow Cape - "Abduction of Europa"
ART INSPIRATION
The name of this coat is based on a legend of the same name. Here, Europa, the epitome of feminine beauty and her attendants were on the shore of Phoenicia gathering flowers, when Zeus Chief of Gods first saw her. He so was taken by her beauty, he instantly fell in love with her and developed a desire to possess her. He transformed himself into a magnificent white bull. The tame bull, lay down at the feet of Europa. Initially hesitant, Europa cautiously placed flowers upon the white bull, before gaining enough courage to sit upon the bull. With Europa on his back, Zeus entered the water and swam into the sea, finally arriving on the shores of Crete. Here Zeus revealed himself to Europa in human form, and seduced Europa beneath a cypress tree.
“In the artwork, amongst the abstract silver lines, you will see the silhouettes of Europa’s seductive body from the back. Above, the bull’s head and horns are guarding Europa. When the coat is worn Europa and the bull’s contours sway, dance and fuse as they did in this breathtaking legend that inspired the design.”
